And Then There Were Four

I’m so excited to be sharing this news with you! As you may have read in the March Debt Recap, we had a potential “storm” on the horizon when it came to our finances. Well this news is anything BUT a storm in our lives – we’re expecting baby number two this year!

We still don’t know exactly what to expect in terms of doctor and hospital bills so we’re continuing to pile up our emergency fund but we are so very excited about this addition to our family. And I can’t wait to share the details as this pregnancy progresses here on the blog!

How did this happen?

Well, I’m sure you can imagine – but there is a funny story behind this pregnancy! We weren’t sure when we wanted to start trying for our second child but as Aurelia’s first birthday drew near I was feeling the pull. I don’t know, maybe something to do with all those newborn memories our social media accounts were showing us?? I was convinced the time had come and after a little coercion Hayden was “convinced” too.

A few weeks later we decided we should at least wait until this summer when we were due to be out of credit card debt. After all, there’s more to having a baby than just fun and games. Hospital bills for one!

We hadn’t made too much of an effort so when my period arrived on the exact day it was due we believed we were in the clear. A week later, though, something told me to take a pregnancy test just to make sure I wasn’t pregnant. That test was the fastest positive result I had ever seen!

Sharing the news

Before taking the test I imagined surprising Hayden in some exciting, Pinterest-y way if I turned out to be pregnant, but the minute I saw those double pink lines I started shaking. We weren’t ready for this! What were we going to do? It was all I could do to wait for him to come home from work and get comfortable before saying, “I got you tacos and there’s something I have to tell you.” His immediate response was, “You’re pregnant!” and absolute elation. I was so relieved!

We called our parents to share the news right then and shared with a few other family and close friends over the next few weeks. We waited as long as we could to make a public announcement, and as I hit the 12 week mark just before Mother’s Day that felt like the perfect time – plus I didn’t feel like I could hide the bump much longer.

Only 6 more months

As I write this I’m 13 weeks pregnant – almost done with the first trimester. I’m due around Thanksgiving but if my first pregnancy is any indication this baby will come early! I had a rough couple of weeks in the beginning (hello nausea and crippling exhaustion!) but have been feeling great with the help of a few extra vitamins and changes to our routine.

I was convinced at first that the bump was just bloating but now that that’s under control this little one is still showing up loud and proud. I haven’t had to switch to maternity jeans just yet but my stretchy-waisted yoga pants are my BFFs!

I’ll share a more detailed first trimester update soon as well as my pregnancy must-haves and dreams for my family’s future! Thank you so much for reading. We really are overjoyed to be sharing this news with you!
